Working for Someone Else from Home

Welcome Back.  I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and spent much time enjoying Jesus with your family.  In our last article, we talked about options for starting your own business.  In this article we will talk about working for someone else, from home.

If starting your own business does not appeal to you, you may want to look at other options.
Within our business, we choose to hire out some of the work that we need done.  We have a wonderful mom, who needs to make some extra income, who does office work for us.  She does data entry, newsletters and helps with customer follow-up.  We pay her per hour.  If you have such skills, you may be able to do such a job, from home.  The pay is based on how many hours you can work and a certain number of hours may not be guaranteed, but you know how much you will make and what hours you will be working.  Many companies or small business owners, with offices, may also hire stay at home moms to do jobs for them.

In looking at work at home options or home-based business options, we have a couple cautions.  If you are going to start a business, make sure you are working with a reputable company, a proven product and a product of high demand that is consumable or has a high re-order rate.  You also want to make sure that the compensation plan provides room for growth and that those growth levels are achievable.  You also want to choose a company with a low investment.  In this day and age, you should not have to carry much inventory and a typical company start-up package is approximately $300.

If you are going to work for someone else, from home, be very cautious of ads in newspapers that invite you to do unconventional work, such as envelope stuffing or “returning lost money.”  Do not send money to people you do not know or whom are not backed by a solid company, with the promise of earning income.  If you would like to work from home, doing such jobs as mentioned above, we suggest approaching a small business owner you know and asking them if they need help or approaching a local company to offer your skills from home.  They will likely be impressed by your fortitude.
