Sunday, June 6 - The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
Gospel -
Jn 16:12-15
On Sunday, June 6 our Catholic Church
family contemplates one of the greatest mysteries of our faith, as we
celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. In the Gospel
reading,
Jn 16:12-15,
Jesus is speaking with His disciples on the night before His death. He
promises to send them the Holy Spirit when He goes, to guide them and
strengthen them. The Holy Spirit, along with God the Father and Jesus
Christ comprise the Holy Trinity.
Our Catechism of the Catholic Church gives us the
following definition for the Trinity:
TRINITY:
The mystery of one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The
revealed truth of the Holy Trinity is at the very root of the Church's
living faith as expressed in the Creed. The mystery of the Trinity in
itself is inaccessible to the human mind and is the object of faith only
because it was revealed by Jesus Christ, the divine Son of the eternal
Father (232, 237, 249, 253-256). (source:
www.USCCB.org)
Through the years, many symbols have been offered to help
us visualize the Trinity in our minds. We've included some of these
symbols below for you to color and consider. This week as you color,
remember to say a quiet prayer to each Person of the Holy Trinity.
