The Epiphany of the LordThis week, we celebrate
the Solemnity of the Epiphany. "Epiphany" is a Greek word that means
"to manifest, or to be revealed". On this special day, our Gospel
reading is from Matthew 2:1-12. The Gospel tells of the Magi, or Wise
Men, who traveled great distances to bring Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense
and myrrh. These were special gifts and each had a meaning and
symbolism.
Each week, we try to give Jesus special gifts from our own
hearts. Our gifts can be simple things: a prayer, a helpful
attitude towards other, a toy shared with someone who has less than we
do...think about the gifts you might share with Jesus this week and ask
Jesus for your own "Epiphany", that your eyes and heart might be open to
truly love and know Him.
As you color this week, please pray for peace in our world
and for kids all over the world who are trying, just like you, to know and
love Jesus!
