On Sunday,
May 30, 2004 we have the readings for Pentecost Sunday. The Gospel
for this Sunday will be one of the two readings listed above, both from the
Gospel according to John. This Sunday we celebrate and remember the
Solemnity of Pentecost. Jesus gave to His disciples, as He gives to
each of us, the gift of the Holy Spirit. He also gave them a mission,
which is the same mission you and I share:
"Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
We are called to share Jesus' message and His love with
the people we meet. To prepare us to meet this mission, we receive the
Seven Gifts
of the Holy Spirit:
Wisdom
Understanding
Right Judgment
Courage
Knowledge
Reverence
Wonder and Awe
We can also pray a special prayer to the Holy
Spirit, to guide us along our mission:
Prayer to the Holy
Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your
faithful,
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.
Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful.
In the same Spirit
help us relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
