Dine Without Whine
is the perfect tool to help your family enjoy stress free and nutritious
family dinners.
This Week's Recipes:
Main Dish Recipe
San Francisco Chops
Makes 4 servings
SLOW COOKER - Start Early
4 rib or loin pork chops 1 in thick
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 clove garlic minced
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon cold water
1. In a skillet, brown pork chops on both sides in oil; transfer to a slow
cooker.
2. Add garlic to drippings; cook and stir for 1 minute or until golden.
3. Stir in soy sauce, broth, brown sugar and red pepper. Cook and stir
until sugar is dissolved. Pour over chops.
4. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until meat is tender. Remove
chops.
5. Combine cornstarch and cold water until smooth; gradually stir into
slow cooker. Return chops to slow cooker and cook at least another 30
minutes, or until slightly thickened.
Serve with Mashed Potatoes and Apple Slices
Weekend Brunch
Ideas:
Apple Banana Oatmeal
Makes 4 servings
2 cups water
2 tablespoons orange juice concentrate
1 cup chopped tart apples
1/2 cup sliced bananas
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/3 cups quick cooking oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
Brown sugar, optional
1. In a saucepan, combine water, orange juice concentrate, apple,
banana, raisins, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil.
2. Stir in oats and wheat germ. Cook for 1-2 minutes stirring
occasionally.
3. Sprinkle with brown sugar if desired.
Delicious Desserts
Lazy Day Cake
Makes 9 servings
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
TOPPING:
1 1/2 cups flaked coconut
1/2 cup brown sugar
5 tablespoons whipping cream
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and
vanilla.
2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture
alternately with milk.
3. Pour into a greased 8 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30
minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out
clean.
4. Meanwhile, combine topping ingredients. Spread over warm cake.
Broil 3-5 inches from the heat for 3-5 minutes or until golden
brown.

over town for that special ingredient!)
