Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8

On December 8, we honor Mary, our Mother on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (a Holy Day of Obligation).   The doctrine states that "the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race."  To read the Church's doctrine on the Immaculate Conception, visit Catholic Encyclopedia's article.  To send a Catholic e-greeting commemorating the feast, click here.
