Which plastics are safe for water bottles and food storage?

Have you heard about all the controversy recently related to Nalgene water bottles? About a month after I wrote the post on Plastic water bottles/5 Plastic safety tips, apparently the Today Show did a story on the same topic, and I've been getting search engine hits like crazy there. (One time I checked and I was the #1 hit on Google - this is huge when normally I'm happy to get into the top 10!) When I started research for this post, I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. It ended up taking hours and hours to get the whole story and to figure out how much I really needed to worry about plastics in our kitchen.
