In Week Three of the Catholic Mom Summer Book Club, Elizabeth Tomlin focuses on the ways we reach out to others and assess our efforts in building effective women's groups.

For the Catholic Mom Summer Book Club, we're discussing Catholic Mom contributor Elizabeth Tomlin's book, Joyful Momentum: Growing and Sustaining Vibrant Women's Groups.

In this week's Book Club episode, Elizabeth shares how the Gospel story of the Woman at the Well is a model for how we should reach out to others, and invites us to ponder what happened when the Samaritan woman returned to that well to draw water after her encounter with Jesus. Saint Katharine Drexel is cited as a model of both missionary discipleship and prayerful change. Reaching out, for Saint Katharine, was all about drawing people to Christ. Finally, Elizabeth offers words of caution about how to make changes in longstanding traditions.

Here's how the Book Club works:

We'll have four live Book Club video presentations, simultaneously on Facebook Live and YouTube, that you can tune in to (or watch later) to participate. These will be on Tuesdays at 3 PM Eastern—we're skipping the Fourth of July. Mark your calendar for these remaining Book Club dates:

  • July 18 (Chapters 7 and 8)

On the Saturdays following the Book Club live presentations, we always share the video here on the Catholic Mom website. You can even sign up for Book Club emails that bring you right to the videos every Saturday.

There's no charge to participate, though we do encourage you to read the book in order to have the best experience. Why not invite a friend to watch together, and then share ideas about how to create or revitalize a women's ministry in your community?
