Reflection on the Daily Readings for 4/29/09 by Fr. Bertrand Buby, SM

Today’s Readings

Scripture: Wed. of 3rd week of Easter. Acts 8:1-8. Psalm 66:1-3.4-5.6-7.
John 6:35-40. Lectionary # 275:

Jesus associates his being the Bread of Life with his own
Resurrection and ours. He says,"Indeed, this is the will of my Father that
everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him, shall have eternal
life. I will raise him up on the last day."  We through our belief in the
Eucharist see that proclamation being fulfilled within the Christian
communities and within ourselves. By our frequent and devout and attentive
participation in this sacrament of the Real Presence we become more and
more Christ-like. We should especially see and cultivate this in our
relationships with one another and with our neighbors. The taking of
Communion is not just a "Jesus and I" experience, it is rather one that
unites us in the Body of Christ with all others in our community of
believers. We are called to go forth and bring the Lord Jesus to others by
our example, our generosity and our kindness and compassion toward all
people.

Again our Scriptures show us Jesus as the Bread of Life who
strengthens us by giving himself to us in the Eucharist. We like Jesus
should be led to accept the will of the Father in our lives as Jesus did.
"It is not to do my own will that I have come down from heaven, but to do
the will of him who sent me." We are reminded of this as the ending of the
Mass states...Ite Missa Est...Go! The Mass is ended and our mission of love
and compassion lies ahead of us for the week.  Amen.
