Every once in a while, you run across a children’s picture book that feels like an instant treasure, one that you will cherish reading with your children.  I have books like that in my library - volumes that sit on the shelf even now that my boys are teens, and that evoke instant memories of precious times spent reading and snuggling together.

Beginnings by Lori Ann Watson (Pauline Books and Media) is one of these treasures.  This newly released book looks at beginning of life stories, from the tiniest seed that grows into a pine tree to the babbling spring that becomes a rushing river and beyond.

Of course, the grandest of all beginnings is the moment of the conception of a human life.  This story is lovingly told at the book’s conclusion in terms that are age appropriate for little hearts and minds.  Underscoring God’s place in this wondrous process, the book will help little ones know with certainty that God knew and loved them long before they came into this world, and that he chose the perfect spot for them to be nurtured and to grow - a mother’s womb.

The gentle prose in Beginnings is accompanied by illustrations from talented artist Shennan Bersani that are gorgeous enough to frame and hang on your walls.

Beginnings is a treat from start to finish.  I can’t wait to share it with my young nephews and Godsons!
