Treasured Teachers Treasured Teachers

As parents, we have been given little gems to love and guide back to God. He has bestowed upon us the gift of having these little souls in our lives who end up teaching us more than we realize. When something breaks or goes wrong, my son is the first to say, “It's okay.” Sometimes I get caught in the drama of the moment and forget that it is not the end of the world. In our minds, we create a world full of demands and may forget about the people around us. People are more important than things. The list of “things” includes material items and tasks as well.

The viewpoint of child is so pure and more deeply connected with God. Children have less “stuff” that gets in the way. They look to their parents for guidance, but I often feel as though they handle stress better than we do. Going with the flow seems to come naturally as they move from one thing to the next without stopping to analyze every detail that went wrong. They are quick to forgive and make amends. As adults, saying, “I'm sorry,” is not always easy. Our pride prevents us from saying what our hearts know is true and right.

When we approach God in prayer, we must look up to him as our children do to us. He is our Heavenly Father who loves us and wants what is best for us. The words, “I'm sorry,” may be difficult to say but the relationships that are broken without it are worth the loss of pride.
