OK look at it this way:

We’re all called to be Holy and to be Saints. We’re trying to be holy and pious (in the good sense of the word), but we’re human and we stumble along the way. The times we aren’t ‘making it’ spiritually and are just going through the motions, we’re simply being posers! (Which is more times than not!) Sounds harsh, but isn’t it true?

We’re just not afraid to admit it!

So without further ado, let's hear about Lance and Pious Posers!

Tell us about your blog in five words or less.

The Grungy Road to Holiness.

Why did you start blogging?

We (Jason Hellman and I) noticed that a lot of the Catholic content was super ‘holy’ and almost Utopian in nature. No one was posting about how hard their journey was, or any slip-ups they had. It didn't seem real. It seemed a bit unrealistic (in comparison to our own lives! haha).

We also wanted to utilize some self-deprecating humor (poking fun at our egos, etc) to help people along. We called it PiousPosers because we are trying to be holy and pious (in the good sense of the word).

When we are just going through the motions, we are only being posers and providing only lip service (this happens more times than not – humanness will get you every time!).

So our boy thoughts would be balanced out, we enlisted the help of a good friend and blogger, Deanna Beaudoin, to even things out with an outlook from a lady. We also were recently blessed with a chaplain, Fr. Matthew.

Why do you keep blogging? What's your inspiration to continue?

At the core, I blog to put my ideas out there and help people realize that just because they aren't slipping into prayerful ecstasy or sporting stigmata, that doesn't mean God doesn't love them - they too can be saints.

On a bad day, my ego pushes me to write, but I have to check it at the door before I write. My main inspiration is simply life (through the Holy Spirit of course).

I think I can speak for the whole Poser team when I say that there is a lot of ‘us’ in the articles we post. A lot of them are inspired simply by what God is doing in our lives that day/week/season.

When you think of the New Evangelization as a Catholic blogger, what excites you? What makes you want to continue?

I get excited by opportunities to collaborate with others and get the word out. I feel called to participate in the New Evangelization. The idea of spreading the Gospel online through the various media we have been blessed with is the coolest thing to me. There are entire generations that are reachable through screens and media. Let’s do it!!

What's the most rewarding aspect of your blogging?

Having people comment about how they ‘needed to hear that today’. Having people whom I admire like or share Poser content is a real honor. The speaking opportunities that have come out of this pseudo-ministry have also been a really rewarding part of it.

In your spare time, what are we likely to find you doing?

• Not praying as much as I should! Haha – do we ever pray as much as we would like to? (trying to be a good Catholic)
• Spending time with my wife, my friends, and my family – BBQs – get-togethers – celebrations
• Working on vehicles – car shows – automotive events
• Recording a podcast
• Daydreaming about a post
• Working on podcasts
• Being outdoors
• Exercising when I remember to
• Watching a certain online movie streaming service … Rhymes with FletNix
