LawnChairCatechism

Welcome to the final session of Lawn Chair Catechism, using Forming Intentional Disciples: The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus, by Sherry Weddell (Our Sunday Visitor, 2012).

A few notes:

  • You'll be able to leave comments and/or leave your link at the end.
  • You do not have to read the book to participate. Check out our discussion guide. There's plenty to get started with if that's all you use (one page a week).

This week, we'll be sharing our concluding thoughts.

A few of my thoughts:

We've spent the entire summer journeying through this book together. I'll admit: reading this book slowly like this has had a different impact on me than I expected. I found myself sharing this book in a more detailed way than I would have otherwise: my temptation would have been to whip through it and read it in a few days.

I was particularly struck by the idea of kerygma, the idea that Jesus is the whole reason for everything we do. Period.

We have to have a relationship with Jesus.

I feel like Bill Engvall might be waiting in the wings to hand me my sign...but there it is. It's so obvious and so easy to lose sight of.

Truly, this was one of the best books I've read, and it's applicable to every area of my Catholic faith life, from my work in our parish to my work here at CatholicMom.com to my family life to my interior life.

For discussion:

In your own faith:

  • What action are you inspired to take as a result of studying this book over the summer?
  • How will you put the concepts and ideas that struck you most into action?
  • Who will you share this book and the ideas in it with?

In your parish:

  • How can you make this book a lived reality in your parish?
  • How can you share this book to make a difference?
  • What else can you do in your parish to start the ball rolling or keep the ball rolling to make it a center for disciples?

Join the discussion!

We'll be "talking" in the combox, too, so please leave your thoughts there as well!
