Today's Gospel: Mark 4:21-25

Have you ever received something really, really cool?  Thing about what joy it brought you, along with the person who gave it to you.  You show your friends, family…anyone who is within earshot.

Don’t you think your faith in God is cool, too?   God has given us so much, have we heard His words enough to share them and the joy they bring?  How has your faith and trust in Jesus given you enough joy to live and share?  The lamp in today’s Gospel is your faith, putting in out in the open is a challenge in this world, but if we did, wouldn’t we be bringing someone else into that joy?

Seeing is believing, but we don’t have that luxury when it comes to God, by today’s standards of tangible vs intangible things. God is invisible, but His love is not!  We have Christ’s teaching and very words to show us, we have the holy scriptures to show us, we have each other and our surroundings to show us that God is ever-present and always loving us.

Unfortunately, however, the tangible things of this world tell us a different story; they contradict what we learn from the above-mentioned "truths." That’s where Jesus comes in saying, “Take care what you hear.”

Don’t let the things of this world sway you into thinking that there is no God, or that God is somewhere else and not paying attention to us.  Simply not true!  The proofs of God are WAY too obvious to ignore.

If we do ignore Him, we lose everything in the long run. As the last part of Jesus’s teaching today says, “The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

If we decide to measure Him as not real, what will become of us?  If we have faith in God, God will reveal Himself to us more and more, if we have little faith in Him, what faith we do have will lose its luster. Faith grows, if nurtured; a relationship with another grows with communication and interaction.  Without nurturing a relationship, there can be no relationship.  We must see that listening to what is true, will help us grow both in a stronger relationship with our heavenly Father and our faith in Him.

Pull out your Bible today, open it up to the New Testament, find today’s gospel, find any gospel in the first four books and read. Breathe in and out His words of healing, forgiveness, mercy, and love!  Feel the love that comes forth from these words and believe!

Ponder:

How can you live your faith today in a tangible, real way? What can you do to be a testimony?

Pray:

Lord, guide me today as I strive to live my faith even in the small, seemingly meaningless things I do.
