# Daily Gospel Reflection for Monday, March 3, 2014

***Today's Gospel: [Mark 10: 17 - 27](http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/030314.cfm)***

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the rich young man that it isn’t enough to obey the Ten Commandments. What is needed is to let go of everything in order to give himself totally to God so that he will have treasure in Heaven. The young man walks away sadly because he can’t part with his worldly possessions and very human way of thinking.

This Gospel makes me uncomfortable. It reminds me that the way to attain Heaven is not through a set formula. There isn’t a set of procedures that, if I follow all the steps correctly, I will one day get to Heaven. I think my reaction would be a little different: Whoa! Wait! Whaddaya you mean it’s not enough? What more do You want?

Jesus tells us what He wants – everything. He wants to be our only prized possession, our only treasure. He wants us to let go of everything – possessions, pride, defenses, hurts – anything that we are intentionally or inadvertently placing before Him. Holiness means living our lives from a supernatural, Godly point of view.

In His mercy, He knows that we can’t possibly do all this but He reassures us that it can happen if we have faith and trust. Only God can bring about the proper disposition in our soul.

“For men it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.”

### Ponder:

What earthly treasure continue to weigh down and prevent you from living a life of holiness?

### Pray:

Dear God, You know how weak I am. Without You, I cannot let go of my attachments. Have mercy on me. Make me let go of my worldliness so that You will be my only treasure.
