# Daily Gospel Reflection for May 21, 2014

***Today's Gospel: [John 15:1-8](http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/052114.cfm)***

We often wonder why bad things happen to good people. This Gospel is the only answer we need. God uses everything for good, and all good comes from God. But, that doesn't mean that everything in our lives is going to be pleasant.

Think about your own children: Is it good parenting to make sure they are sheltered from every annoyance, problem or discomfort? We know it isn't. And, as much as we love them and want to fix all of their woes, we love them enough to let them experience life and learn from mistakes and challenges. We respect their free will and allow them to make decisions and feel the consequences. This is how they learn and this is how they grow. And, if they can't do it on their own, all they need to do is ask for help, and we are there with our wisdom and experience.

Of course, as parents, we don't do any of these things without fail. But God does. He parents us much like we parent our own children, but He does it perfectly.

When you are in a time of trouble, remember that God is your Father. Remember how a father must parent his child in order to watch her grow.

### Ponder:

What other parallels do you see between the way you parent your children and the way God parents you?

### Pray:

Lord, give me the foresight to understand that you use everything in this life for good. Remind me that while I may suffer now, if I cling to you, I will find peace.
