Daily Gospel Reflection for May 23, 2014

Today's Gospel: John 15:12-17

Jesus tells us that there exists no greater love than to lay down one’s life for his friends. In the next sentence He includes all those who follow his commandments as his friends. We are not slaves, we are family. We are in the inner circle. But this privilege comes with responsibility. We have to bear fruit that will last. In other words, work is ok but work that has eternal consequences is what He requires. And if we are faithful in His service, what could he deny us?

Ponder:

Are we working towards the eternal? When we die what will we leave behind?

Pray:

Jesus, you are the vine. Help us to bear fruit that will last.
