Today's Gospel: John 16:12-15
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.”
That verse rings with such truth and clarity for me in my life. As I have become a more prayerful person I have seen a pattern. Whenever something big will be required of me God calls me to him more closely in prayer. God, however, being the gentleman he is and honoring my free will calls gently. And often I ignore his call. How foolish of me.
Jesus prepared his apostles for what was going to happen to him. And then he sent the Holy Spirit to be with them. The same is possible for us but we must be prepared. Somehow or another, deep in our souls, we feel the stirring, the call to something more. If we acknowledge it and allow God to prepare us for it, good or bad, he will prepare us. It requires trust in God’s plan, timing and wisdom. It means letting go of our plan so we can bear to hear his.
Ponder:
How does God prepare me for change in my life?
Pray:
Father God, as you sent your Son to us and he promised us the Spirit, help us to be ready to receive these gifts. Teach us to trust in your ways so that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit and prepared for all you have for us. Amen.
