Today's Gospel: Jn. 17: 1 - 11A
Jesus’ hour is close at hand and so He prays what is known as the Priestly Prayer of Jesus. In the first part, He offers His sacrifice on the cross to the Father. He asks the Father to glorify Him in the Resurrection so that He may give the promise of eternal life to His disciples. When we gain eternal life, we know the Father and the Son whom He sent.
In the second part, He prays for His disciples who will carry on His saving work. They have come to understand Jesus in the Father and the Father in Jesus. Jesus is sending them out into the world. He asks the Father to protect them and to keep them unified with the Father and the Son.
Like the apostles, we gradually come to know God by following Jesus and living a humble life of prayer, work, and service. This is how we are unified in the Trinity and in this way, we give glory to God.
Ponder:
Are you striving to live a life of humility, prayer, work, and service that glorifies God?
Pray:
Jesus, grant me the grace to live the life of a disciple, in humility, prayer, work, and service so that I may give all glory to God.
