I'm constantly amazed by how well our friends at Catholic Relief Services help and support us in our quest to live out the true meaning of the liturgical calendar. As we advance through November toward the season of Advent, now is the time to begin planning how we will prepare for our commemoration of Christ's nativity in our hearts and homes.
To assist us, CRS has assembled several very wonderful resources, including:
- A full "Journey through Advent" resource center
- A fabulous alternative giving program called "Tree of Life" - honestly, most of the people on my gift list this year may be receiving things like "two bags of fertilizer" or some "mosquito nets" - what I love about this tool is the fact that CRS has created a whole Facilitator's guide so that this resource will be very easy to use in parishes and classrooms. Wondering what to get ME for Christmas? I'd love a lamb, a handwashing station, or (if you really love me) even "a cow"!
- An Advent Wreath Prayer
- A Prayer to Celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe
- A Nativity Scene Prayer
It's honestly not too early to begin planning now for a fruitful Christmas giving season. With these tools to prepare our hearts and the perfect gift list to keep us out of the malls, I think this is going to be a beautiful Advent!
