Today's Gospel: Luke 19: 45-48

Luke’s account of Jesus finding vendors in the temple is a mild one. But we all know what really happened. Jesus sends a strong message to the people of his time with this display. He is not just commenting on keeping the house of worship a sacred place, he is also providing us with an example of disobedience.

While we are called to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s, we are not called to follow leadership that takes us astray from God’s teachings. This is becoming an increasingly important reminder in present day. Bills are being passed which violate our freedom of religion and more specifically require Catholics to turn their backs on basic foundations of the Church.

Our bishops and leaders have made it clear that we are ready to disobey. Are you ready to be a rebel?

Ponder:

Are you prepared to disobey in the name of God? What might that look like? What would it mean for your life? Your family? Your future?

Pray:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
