Daily Gospel Reflection for February 24, 2015

Today's Gospel: Matthew 6:7-15

“The Lord’s Prayer is truly the summary of the whole gospel, the most perfect of prayers” (CCC #2774). Through it, we enter into Jesus’ own prayer life. His words echo whenever we recite it. The Church throughout time cries out to our Father in petition for that which Jesus taught us to ask: 1. That God’s name be revered, 2. That His kingdom begin here on earth, 3. That God’s will is done in our lives so Heaven can start now, 4. That our Father give to us whatever it is that we truly need, 5. Especially forgiveness, but only if we first forgive others, 6. That He give us the grace to resist temptations, and 7. That He will protect us from evil. Until we are all in Heaven, we, the Church, will continue to pray Jesus’ perfect prayer. Now that is awesome!

Ponder:

Do I reflect on the words and petitions that Jesus gave us in the “Our Father” or do I more often than not recite the prayer from rote memory? Think about it, literally.

Pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
