Super_glueMy three year old daughter, Stephanie, came into the kitchen one morning while I was making breakfast. She ran up to me and I put down a pan to scoop her into my arms. Then she threw her arms around my neck and snuggled in, giving me a tight squeeze, and declared:  “Dad, I’m going to keep you forever!”

I guess that means I got my tenure in the University of Fatherhood.

Another time Steph told me: “Dad, your love and my love are stuck together with Super Glue—and that lasts forever!”

Some days it feels more like Krazy Glue.

But she’s right. She and I are in this together as father and daughter for the long haul, bound together “with human cords, with bands of love.” (Hos 11, 4.)

That’s how God loves us: with Krazy love—the kind of love that lasts forever. As my same declaratory three year old explained it: “God’s love is like a circle, because it never ends.”

The Bible tells us: “ . . . God’s love endures forever . . .” (Ps 136, 1)

Even “[i]f we are unfaithful, He remains faithful . . .” (2 Tm 2, 13)

But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend—You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth and summoned from its far-off places, You whom I have called my servant, whom I have chosen and will not cast off—Fear not, I am with you . . . (Is 41, 8-10)

God has told us: “. . . I will never forget you.  See, upon the palms of my hands I have written your name . . .” (Is 49, 15-16)

Which is good to know. When the way is long and weariness weighs heavy, so much so that at times we wonder how we can possibly continue, it’s good to remember that God is with us—He hasn’t given up. Not on us. And He never will.

God has His arms around us, always, just like a little girl stuck to her Dad with Krazy Glue, and our name is written on the palms of His hands as holds us and draws us to Him, always and forever.
