Wallk With Me: The Stations of the Cross App

Developed by Pauline Books and Media, $1.99 – Available for Android and iOS devices

The Daughters of St. Paul absolutely excel at providing prayerful, engaging media to aid the faithful in their spiritual journey. Walk with Me: The Stations of the Cross App is no exception.

The art, the music, and the choice to employ four separate voices to create compelling, thoughtful reflections to accompany each station truly set this Walk with Me: The Station of the Cross App apart. I was particularly drawn to their use of both female and male voices for dialog. It created a deeper moment of contemplation when a male voice read the words intended to be Jesus or God speaking to us.

In addition to knowing the lovely Sisters (members of the Daughters of St. Paul) behind the female voices, I was also pleasantly surprised when I recognized the male voices belonging to two wonderful Priests I am also blessed to know! I share this information because I hope knowing the heart of those sharing this message might enhance your experience with the Stations of the Cross App, as it did mine. I pray that you too may feel the beauty of each of their vocations – all 4 and even those in the production end – in how they deliver the captivating prayers and reflections.

As to its function, the user is given the choice between either a traditional or a contemporary feel to the images representing each station. Additionally, both options perfectly fit the tone and words chosen for each station. One of the app’s strongest qualities is the creator’s ability to paint a vivid portrait of Jesus on the road to Cavalry.

This App provides sound catechism to feed the mind as well as stirring emotional response to feed the soul – after listening each time I feel a renewed sense of encouragement and hope. I was actually brought to tears on the twelve station – Jesus’ words from the Cross are spoken powerfully with such conviction, love and truth!  The App offers many options to visually and audibly enhance your experience as well.

I choose to work much harder at making the time for the practice of meditating on the Stations of the Cross, after reading this message given by Jesus to St. Faustina Kowalska, regarding this devotion:

My daughter, try your best to make the Stations of the Cross in this hour [3 o'clock divine mercy hour], provided that your duties permit it; and if you are not able to make the Stations of the Cross, then at least step into the chapel for a moment and adore, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, My Heart, which is full of mercy; and should you be unable to step into the chapel, immerse yourself in prayer there where you happen to be, if only for a very brief instant. (St. Faustina’s Diary, 1572)

To help me remember, I set a daily 3 o'clock alarm on my watch (or you could use your phone).  If I am unable to make time for the Stations, I will at least for that moment remember the Passion of my Lord and Savior, as Jesus requests in his message to St. Faustina.

It is NOT all seriousness and deep thought… a quick peek at The Stations of the Cross credits gives you a glimpse at the sweet hearts (and true understanding of joy and balance) of these bomb-diggity #medianuns!
