With the month dedicated to Our Lady fast approaching, I’d like to share some meditation topics that I’ve found fruitful while praying the Sorrowful mysteries.

The Agony in the Garden: For this mystery, I lift up everyone who is undergoing the anxiety of anticipatory suffering—those waiting for surgery, those with a terminal diagnosis, those who feel insecure in their jobs, the elderly in general—anyone who knows that his/her life situation will likely become more difficult before it gets better.

The Scourging at the Pillar: I pray for those suffering chronic physical pain. I ask that they be given Jesus' strength to bear it and for healing in accordance with the Father's holy will.

The Crowning with Thorns: Since Christ’s accusers intended to mock Him, I focus on the victims of bullying. At a minimum, bullies intentionally subject their targets to embarrassment and ridicule. I simply pray that it stops.

The Carrying of the Cross: I pray for every soul on Earth. We all have crosses to bear. I pray especially for those who suffer in silence, including those with mental illness who must hide their pain because their particular type of suffering is so widely misunderstood.

The Crucifixion: I pray for the dying and the souls in Purgatory.

I hope your relationship with Our Lady will grow in beauty this May.
