Today's Gospel: Matthew 7:1-5

This passage may be among some of the most widely quoted and spoken-of passages in Scripture, even by non-Christians. People are ready and willing to quote, “Don’t judge,” but they don’t remember (or perhaps don’t even know!) the rest of the verse.

Christ was not implying that we could never correct others. In fact, He encourages us to be able to help our brothers and sisters see more clearly. What we should not be doing is living a life of sin while correcting everyone around us.

Of course it is more challenging to change oneself, to seek to resolve issues in our own life, than it is to point fingers at others. But how much more fulfilling would it be if we chose to change things around ourselves before critiquing the lives of others?

Ponder:

How is the Lord calling me to ‘judge well’ in my life this week?

Pray:

My God, allow me to thoroughly examine my own life before I correct others. When I do correct others, help me to do it out of love and for Your glory.
