Gospel Reflections 800x800 gold outlineToday's Gospel: Matthew 8:28-34

Optional Memorial of Blessed Junípero Serra, Priest

After Jesus drove the demons into the herd of swine, the townspeople feared him because they did not understand who he was, or where his power came from. As disciples baptized into the mission of Jesus, we, too, have the power of the Holy Spirit to drive out the many forms of ‘demons’ that we encounter each day. Whether it is the cranky neighbor, the person driving with road rage, or the co-worker who just can’t seem to be nice, we have the power of Christ within us to counteract evil by offering love, mercy, and joy to those around us. Are we up to the task? It is our faith in Jesus Christ that gives us the authority to stand up to the evils in our society and to help lead all people to know and love God.

Ponder:

Recall a time when you stood up for your faith against the accusations of a disbeliever. What did you experience?

Pray:

Lord God,
Your mercy is without measure.
Give us the conviction of faith that we may
help drive out the evils around us.
Help us to be agents of peace
and love to our family, friends,
and those you send our way.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
