Gospel Reflections 800x800 gold outlineToday's Gospel: Luke 8:19-21

This gospel is short and to the point. There’s not much to be distracted by. Jesus simply states, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

What a wake-up call for us! Jesus wants to call us his brothers, as we are all children of the Father. But too often we get distracted by our own plans. Even if we hear God’s word (which presupposes a prayer life), it is the follow-up action which is often the more difficult action, but which will also bring us closer to the Lord. I certainly desire intimacy with the Lord, but I need this reminder of how crucial my actions toward the Lord’s will can be.

Ponder:

How often do I know God’s will for me yet put it aside for something easier or seemingly better?

Pray:

Father, you care for the birds of the sky; how much more you care for me! Allow me to trust in your divine plan and to act on it. Amen.
