Gospel Reflections 800x800 gold outlineToday's Gospel: Luke 10:1-12

Memorial of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church

In this scripture passage, Jesus sends out his disciples in pairs, and he reminds them that the “harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few.” Today, more than ever, the fields are ripe for harvesting, but the workers are indeed few in number. Our society desperately needs to hear the Good News proclaimed because the fire of faith has grown cold in so many hearts. As Christian mothers, it is our right and duty to teach the faith to our children and to share the Good News of the Gospel with our family and friends. Pope Francis calls us to share the faith in joyful ways, both in word and in action. Like the disciples at the time of Jesus, we, too, might run the risk of being rejected by others for our Christian belief. When this happens, Jesus invites us to shake the dust off of our feet, and to continue to share the gospel with those who are willing to listen. We sow the seeds, and God does the rest.

Ponder:

Reflect on a time when you have felt intimidated to share your faith. In what ways do you feel called to proclaim God’s message today?

Pray:

Lord of the Harvest,
You call all people to share in the mission and ministry
of your son, Jesus Christ.
Pour out your Spirit upon us that we may
persevere in our resolve to share the gospel
with all we meet.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
