Gospel Reflections 800x800 gold outlineToday's Gospel: Luke 10:17-24

Optional Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Seventy disciples have just returned from their mission to evangelize and cast out demons in Jesus’ name, and they are excited! “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of Your name!”

Jesus, in turn, rejoices and thanks our Father for revealing His great power and mercy to the humble. “I thank Thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although You have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, You have revealed them to the childlike.”

The proud will rejoice in their ability to do great deeds. They will attribute their success to themselves. The humble will acknowledge that they have performed great deeds, but they will point to the Father and give all glory to Him.

Ponder:

Great deeds and miracles are not the most important thing. What is important is knowing that great deeds and miracles are granted by God in order to help us reach our goal of attaining heaven.

Pray:

Lord, make me as one of the seventy disciples, performing saving work in Your name and never forgetting that only when I am humble can I do great things for You.
