Gospel Reflections 800x800 gold outlineToday's Gospel: Luke 12:54-59

Optional Memorial of Saint John of Capistrano, Priest

In today’s Gospel, Jesus challenges his followers and us by pointing out how we can recognize the pending weather based on the signs of the earth, yet we cannot judge what is right on our own. We look for guidance through venues such as therapists, courts, and mediators. We could take this a step further and consider all the “prophets” we seek today. Many of these modern prophets are false prophets Jesus so often warns us about. To know what to expect in the spiritual world, we need to look no further than the signs given to us today: the daily miracle of the Eucharist, God revealing Himself through scripture, the blessings and graces God bestows on us every day. These are all signs of what God has in store for us.

Ponder:

What “signs” has God given me today to show He is with us? Have I cooperated in the many graces He has given me today? Have I thanked Him for remembering me again?

Pray:

Jesus, thank you for always loving me, even when I misread the signs. If I begin to stray and look for You elsewhere, guide me back to the right path where there will always be your grace and blessing.
