Mark your calendars friends! I'm pleased today to announce our next CatholicMom.com Book Club. We'll be ringing in the New Year with a community reading of the awesome new book My Badass Book of Saints: Courageous Women Who Showed Me How to Live by our very own Maria Morera Johnson. Maria's book provided the inspiration for our Book Club title "Saints in 16".
We believe this book is the perfect tool to help us begin the New Year as we each strive for sanctity in our own lives. If you're like me, then some version of "pray more" or "be a better Catholic" are perpetual New Year's resolutions. I can't think of a finer book to help us emulate the lives of the saints as we figure out how to maneuver the busyness of everyday life on our own path to sainthood!

In this edgy, honest, and often audacious book of Catholic spirituality, blogger and popular podcaster Maria Morera Johnson explores the qualities of twenty-four holy women who lived lives of virtue in unexpected and often difficult circumstances.
In My Badass Book of Saints, Johnson shares her experience as a first-generation Cuban-American, educator of at-risk college students, and caregiver for a husband with Lou Gehrig's disease. Through humorous, empowering, and touching portraits of twenty-four spiritual mentors who inspired her, Johnson shows how their bravery, integrity, selflessness, perseverance, and hope helped her and can help others have courage to reach for a closer connection to God.
She presents remarkable holy women and saints--including the gun-toting Servant of God Sr. Blandina Segal who tried to turn the heart of Billy the Kid, and Nazi resister Irena Sendler who helped smuggle children out of the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II--in a way that brings their vivid personalities to life and helps readers live out the challenges of their lives with virtue and conviction.

Our Book Club experience will launch on January 2nd with my personal interview with Maria. But we wanted to give you a "heads up" now, so that you can add this book to your "wish list" for the holiday season. We've recruited an awesome team of writers to walk with us through a six week reflection on this instant classic. The book is bold, beautiful and perfect for a fantastic conversation about what it takes in today's world to truly connect with God.

We’ll post a reflection each week on Saturdays. We have a team of writers who will be reflecting on each chapter and posting discussion questions. We encourage you to read along with us and be part of the larger conversation here and on social media.
