Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

The Feast of Christ the King has held a special place in my heart for the last nine years. My high school had a strong devotion to Christ the King, and every year, on the Friday nearest the feast, the whole school participated in a Eucharistic Procession around the neighborhood. We did something similar in college, except on a larger scale.

These processions, as significant as they were, taught me something bigger: Christ needs to reign on the throne of my heart. As King of the universe, His universe includes my poor, insignificant little heart, and He wants to take up residence there.

The Jews of Jesus’ time and my sins may have crucified our Lord, but He reigned triumphantly from the tree and proved that death had no authority over Him. We can have the same victory over death, if only we allow Him a part in our lives.

Ponder:

What is one thing which is pushing Christ out of my life? How can I work this week to eradicate that one thing?

Pray:

Christ, my King, I give you my heart as your throne. Please take complete control and reign over my life. Amen.
