Dec 28, 2015 8:00:20 AM  |  by [Sarah Reinhard](https://www.catholicmom.com/articles/author/sarah-reinhard) ![featured image](https://www.catholicmom.com/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Saints-in-16-Book-Club_feature-550x267-1.png) *Sarah Reinhard introduces the Saints in 16 Book Club featuring *My Badass Book of Saints* by Maria Morera Johnson.* --- The new year is right around the corner and, if you're like everyone else, you're considering the year ahead. Who better to kick the year off with than the saints? Consider this a personal invitation for you to join us for what may be our best book club yet!   ![Saints in 16 Book Club_feature](https://www.catholicmom.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Saints-in-16-Book-Club_feature-550x267-1.png?width=1000&height=485&name=Saints-in-16-Book-Club_feature-550x267-1.png)   On January 2, we'll begin reading and discussing [*My Badass Book of Saints: Courageous Women Who Showed Me How to Live*](https://www.avemariapress.com/product/1-59471-632-3/My-Badass-Book-of-Saints/) by Maria Morera Johnson. Here's a look at the book: > *In this edgy, honest, and often audacious book of Catholic spirituality, blogger and popular podcaster Maria Morera Johnson explores the qualities of twenty-four holy women who lived lives of virtue in unexpected and often difficult circumstances.* > > *In My Badass Book of Saints, Johnson shares her experience as a first-generation Cuban-American, educator of at-risk college students, and caregiver for a husband with Lou Gehrig's disease. Through humorous, empowering, and touching portraits of twenty-four spiritual mentors who inspired her, Johnson shows how their bravery, integrity, selflessness, perseverance, and hope helped her and can help others have courage to reach for a closer connection to God.* > > *She presents remarkable holy women and saints—including the gun-toting Servant of God Sr. Blandina Segal who tried to turn the heart of Billy the Kid, and Nazi resister Irena Sendler who helped smuggle children out of the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II—in a way that brings their vivid personalities to life and helps readers live out the challenges of their lives with virtue and conviction.*   ![My badass book of saints](https://www.catholicmom.com/hs-fs/hubfs/My%20badass%20book%20of%20saints.jpg?width=900&height=1384&name=My%20badass%20book%20of%20saints.jpg)   On January 2, Lisa Hendey will share her interview with Maria.
