Today's Gospel: John 20, 19-23 - Pentecost
Happy Birthday!
We all anticipate our birthday each year. Some mark it as memorial, others accomplishment. Many are excited for the new gifts they will receive. In today's Gospel we are reminded of the gift we receive on the birthday of the Church: the gift of the Holy Spirit. Each year the celebration of Pentecost gives us a chance to remember that this life-giving gift continues to flow in our lives. We are renewed, refreshed, and revived.
Ponder:
How can I bring alive the celebration of the birthday of the Church? Is it just a memorial celebration for me? Or is it a day I look forward to each year with anticipation of the gift I receive?
Pray:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created.
R. And you shall renew the face of the earth.
