It was a beautiful hot day; the cotton clouds looked painted across the powder blue sky as we searched within the shade of the peach trees for the most perfect peaches. I had the opportunity to pick peaches with most of my children. Anna, my daughter, had picked peaches before with her grandparents and told us how it was done. We were to search out the darkest peaches, feel them to make sure they were not too hard and not too mushy, then twist and pull them off of the branch.

God creates us and allows us to grow until we are ready to be picked. He waits patiently as he watches our growth, mistakes, triumphs, pain, and our joys. When God thinks we are ready he "picks" us. God has a purpose for each of our lives to change the world. He knows what we will choose before we choose it; he knows when we will be ready. However, most of us never feel truly ready to be picked by God. We don't believe we are good enough. It's like the saying "God doesn't call the qualified. God qualifies the called."

[Tweet "We don't have to feel worthy; God will give us the strength, words, and endurance to do his work."]

We don't have to feel worthy; God will give us the strength, words, and endurance to do his work. We don't want to leave our selfish ways and ambitions of power, wealth, and honor, but God wants us to realize our life is not about us, it is about loving others. God knows when we are ready. Have you ever noticed that some of the most inspirational people have been so young, and we think that's just too young? Some have been 100 years old and all ages in between. It's not truly about the age but about how ready they are to give their lives for the good of others that can come at any age.

So, where are you? Are you ready to be picked by God for his plan? Are you ripe, rotten, or somewhere in between? If God calls you today, can you walk away from your wants and needs and live for God's needs instead? No one could do it on their own but with the breath of the Holy Spirit, the salvation of Jesus Christ, and the guidance of God any one could be picked to do God's will.

Are you ready to be picked?
