Gospel Reflections 800x800 gold outline

Today's Gospel: Luke 7, 1-10

“Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof. Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word and let my servant be healed.”

What an unexpected model of faith the centurion offers - a man of considerable stature, respected for his position and for his service to the community. Despite his powerful position, he knew that on his own he could not save the life of his servant. He recognized that only Jesus could do that and was certain that his servant would be healed if Jesus willed it. His unrelenting faith saved the life of the servant.

How often we rely on our strengths and will to fulfill our needs rather than asking Jesus for His assistance. Like the centurion, let us have faith in Christ's healing power to make us whole.

Ponder:

Jesus, your healing comes to those who have full confidence in your ability to heal. When has my lack of trust in you hindered my ability to be healed?

Pray:

Jesus, in my moments of need help me to remember to look beyond my own strengths and abilities and to have faith in your ability to heal.
