Today's Gospel: Luke 8, 1-3 - Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian

In today’s Gospel reflection, we hear of the women who followed Jesus; specifically, we hear mention of Mary Magdalene, Johanna, the wife of Herod’s steward, and Susanna. These women cared for Jesus and His disciples as they journeyed from town to town, bringing the good news of salvation to all who crossed their paths. These women did not ask for payment for the cooking and cleaning services provided; they gave from their hearts to care for Jesus and His disciples.

Two thousand plus years later, we can say some things never change! As wives and mothers, we give of ourselves to provide for our loved ones, just as these three strong women did. We receive no monetary payment for caring for those that we love. That is the way it should be, for love is given freely; it is self-giving. The love that we have for our families, the love that the three women from today’s Gospel had for Jesus and His disciples, is poured out in our efforts to care and provide. Women have always been good at being caring, nurturing and strong. Some things never change!

Ponder:

In what ways do you give of your self-giving love, just as Mary Magdelene, Johanna and Susanna did so long ago? Know that Jesus appreciates it as much today as He did more than two thousand years ago.

Pray:

Jesus may I always be an instrument of Your Love, in all that I say and do. May those who You have placed in my care thrive and flourish in Your name. Amen.
