Today's Gospel: Luke 15, 1-10

Walking out of confession has always been an exhilarating thing for me. Joy and relief and a lightness of step are what I experience as I leave the confessional. Burdens carried are for the moment unloaded and that unburdened feeling is cause for elation.

Today’s gospel reminds me however that the sacrament of reconciliation isn’t simply about my experiencing delight alone. There’s great joy in heaven over my repentance. Even the angels rejoice.

How mindful I should then be about a sure way to not only experience joy but produce it in the heavenly realms.

Ponder:

If experiencing and also giving great joy is borne from the simple act of seeking reconciliation with God through confession, shouldn’t I seek that reconciliation more often?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the joy received and given when I reconcile myself to You through Your Son Jesus Christ. Grant, dear God, that I’m ever mindful of my need to pursue that joy, and ever mindful of the joy that is produced in Heaven when I, a sinner, repent via the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Move in me by the power of your Holy Spirit to pursue that joy, even as You Father pursue me. In Christ’s name, amen.
