OS SANTOS INOCENTES E O ABORTO (The Holy Innocents and Abortion)

No dia 28 de dezembro comemoramos os Santos Inocentes, os meninos que foram mortos por Herodes na tentativa dele matar Jesus. Eles são os primeiros mártires, porque mesmo sem saberem, morreram por causa de Jesus.

O Pe. Léo comentou uma vez que esse exército dos Santos Inocentes aumenta a cada dia no Céu, pois as crianças que são abortadas também são mártires, que mesmo sem saber, morrem por causa do pecado original, pelo egoísmo, covardia e até ignorância de seus próprios pais. E se morrem em consequência do pecado do mundo, morrem no lugar de Jesus. E o mais incrível é que esse filho que foi abortado, um Santo Inocente, do Céu, intercede por seus pais, para que encontrem o caminho da misericórdia de Deus.

Muita coisa tem sido falada aqui no Brasil sobre o aborto nestas últimas semanas, pois infelizmente estão tentando legalizar essa prática por aqui. Os que defendem o aborto afirmam que a intenção seria “proteger” as mulheres que já fazem o aborto ilegalmente, para que possa ter mais “segurança” em abortar. Porém, ninguém fala sobre os enormes traumas que essas mulheres sofrem ao abortar e que o melhor para elas seria dar condições para que pudessem levar sua gestação adiante e ter os seus bebês.

Caso o aborto seja legalizado, muitas mulheres serão coagidas a abortar, seja pelo pai de seu filho, pela família e até pelo médico, que lucrará com isso. O fato é que por ser ilegal, a mulher pensa duas vezes antes de se submeter a um procedimento de risco e tem a lei a seu favor para convencer quem poderia lhe pressionar a fazer o aborto.

Quando estava grávida da Júlia, minha quarta filha que tinha um problema genético e que provavelmente morreria no parto (a história inteira você pode ler aqui), sofri uma pressão enorme por parte do médico geneticista para que a abortasse. Mesmo sendo ilegal, ele “daria um jeito”. Ele chegou até a falar que eu poderia morrer se levasse a gravidez adiante e deixaria meus outros três filhos órfãos. Se eu tivesse a mínima dúvida sobre abortar ou não, ele teria me convencido. E eu teria sido privada do imenso privilégio que foi ser mãe da Júlia e ter o coração em paz, pois a amamos acima de tudo e fizemos tudo o que pudemos enquanto ela esteve aqui conosco. Essa paz que é roubada de toda mãe que aborta e que causa imensos danos psicológicos para toda a vida.

Durante a minha vida conheci três mulheres que pensaram em abortar quando descobriram a gravidez. Por graça divina, consegui convencer as três a terem seus bebês. Eu ainda tenho contato com duas delas, que me agradecem por tê-las apoiado num momento delicado de suas vidas e hoje podem ver seus filhos crescerem saudáveis. Hoje não conseguem imaginar suas vidas sem seus filhos.

Mas o que podemos fazer então frente a uma situação tão grave que é a possibilidade da legalização do aborto? Primeiro, rezar, fazer jejuns e sacrifícios para que os políticos sejam convencidos que a vida deve prevalecer sempre. Podemos também nos informar mais profundamente sobre os argumentos dos que defendem o aborto, para podermos rebater a cada um. Vários sites católicos já possuem esse material disponível.

E por fim, uma prática que conheci no começo do ano é a adoção espiritual de bebês que estão em risco de serem abortados. É muito simples fazer essa adoção: 1º) escolha um nome para o bebê que você está adotando espiritualmente; 2º) anote o dia em que está começando a adoção; 3º) anote a data provável do parto, que será 9 meses após o dia em que você começou a adoção; 4º) reze todo os dias a seguinte oração: “Jesus, Maria e José, eu os amo muito e imploro que poupem a vida de (nome do bebê), o bebê ainda não nascido que eu adotei espiritualmente e que está em perigo de ser abortado.”

Ó Santos Inocentes, intercedei a Deus em favor de tantos bebês que continuamente são ameaçados pelo aborto. Abri o coração dessas mães e desses pais para que aceitem o grande presente que receberam, que é cuidar de uma alma imortal. Intercedei a Deus para que nos livre da aprovação de uma lei permitindo o aborto em nosso país. Intercedei também por todos os profissionais da saúde que praticam aborto, para que sua consciência mostre o mal que estão fazendo. Ó Santos Inocentes, intercedei por nós para que tenhamos sempre a força para lutar contra o aborto, sabendo que é uma guerra espiritual contra o demônio, revestindo-nos com a armadura de Deus. Amém.

The Holy Innocents and Abortion

On December 28^th we celebrate the Holy Innocents, the boys who were killed by Herod in his attempt to kill Jesus. They are the first martys, because even without knowing it, they died because of Jesus.

Fr. Léo once said that this army of the Holy Innocents keeps growing each day in Heaven, because aborted children are also martyrs; without even knowing it, they died because of Original Sin, by the selfishness, cowardice and even ignorance of their own parents. If they die as a consequence of the sin of the world, they die in Jesus' place. And the most amazing thing is that this child who was aborted, a Holy Innocent, in Heaven, intercedes for his parents, so they can find the way of God's mercy.

Many things have been said here in Brazil about abortion in these past weeks, because, unfortunately, they are trying to legalize this practice here. The pro-choice advocates say that their intention is to “protect” women who already obtain abortions illegally, so they can have more “safety” in abortion. However, none of them speaks about the huge trauma that these women suffer when they abort and that the best for them is to make it possible for them to carry on with their pregnancies and have their babies.

If abortion is legalized, many women will be coerced to abort by the baby's father, by their families or even the doctors, who would profit from it. The fact is that because abortion is illegal here, the woman thinks twice before submitting herself to a risky procedure and has the law beside her to contradict those who might pressure her into an abortion.

When I was pregnant with Julia, my fourth child who had a genetic problem and probably wouldn't survive birth (full story here), I suffered huge pressure by the geneticist doctor to abort her. Even though it was illegal, he said he “could work things out.” He even said I could die if I carried on with the pregnancy and would leave my other three children orphans. If I had a slight doubt about whether to abort or not, he would have convinced me. And I wouldn't have had the immense privilege of being Julia's mother and have my heart in peace, because we loved her above all and did all we could while she was here with us. This peace is stolen from each mother who aborts, and causes great psychological damages for all her life.

During my life I knew three women who thought about aborting when they discovered their pregnancies. With the grace of God, I was able to convince all three to have their babies. I'm still in touch with two of them, and they thank me for having supported them in such a delicate moment of their lives. Today they can see their children growing healthy. Today they can not imagine their lives without their children.

But what can we do in such a grave situation that is the possibility of the legalization of abortion? First, we can pray, fast and make sacrifices so the politicians may be convinced that the life should always prevail. We can also get information about the arguments that the pro-choice people have, so we can debate each one of them. Many Catholic sites already have this material available.

And last, a practice that I got to know in the beginning of the year is the spiritual adoption of babies who are in danger of abortion. It is very simple to make this adoption: first, choose a name for the baby you are spiritual adopting; second, write the day you are beginning this adoption; third, write the probable date of the birth, that will be 9 months after the day you began the adoption; fourth, pray every day this prayer: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of (baby's name) the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

Oh Holy Innocents, intercede before God in favor of so many babies who are continually in danger of abortion. Open the heart of those mothers and fathers, so they accept the great gift they've received, that is to take care of an immortal soul. Intercede before God so we can be spared of the approval of a law legalizing abortion in our country. Intercede also for all the doctors and nurses who make abortions, so their conscience shows the evil they are doing. Oh Holy Innocents, intercede for us so we can always have the strength to fight against abortion, knowing that is a spiritual war against the demon, coating us with the armor of God. Amen.
