Titled “Welcome the Needy,” the video illustrates Francis’ prayer intention for people who are abandoned or in vulnerable situations. [Tweet "This February, pray with @Pontifex for suffering and abandoned people. #ThePopeVideo"] This month, the Pope draws from the popular “mannequin challenge,” which has filled social media with videos of people frozen in all types of activities or humorous and difficult body positions. But the Pope’s proposal is to go in the exact opposite direction and recognize that passivity —stillness— and indifference toward those who suffer are attitudes that society must urgently reject. “We live in cities that throw up skyscrapers and shopping centers and strike big real estate deals… but they abandon a part of themselves to marginal settlements on the periphery,” Pope Francis laments, comparing the realities faced by the different segments of modern society. “This month we want to unite, as Francis says, on behalf of ‘those who are weighed down, especially the poor, refugees and marginalized, that they might find welcome and support in our communities.’ There are so many walls that are built out of fear of others! ‘Walls that enclose some and leave others out,’ as Pope Francis said in the 3rd World Meeting of Popular Movements (November 2016). But he added, ‘All walls collapse.’ Let us pray so that it is not fear that directs our lives, but mercy, opening our hearts and our arms to all those who are excluded, marginalized, weighed down and desperate (Matthew 11:28),” said Jesuit Father Frédéric Fornos, international director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network and its youth branch, the Eucharistic Youth Movement. https://youtu.be/DBU4kj51rxQ *Copyright 2017 The Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network* ### Share this article [![Share on Facebook](https://static.hubspot.com/final/img/common/icons/social/facebook-24x24.png)](http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2017%2F02%2F11%2Fpope-francis-proposes-anti-mannequin-challenge-fight-indifference%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dfacebook) [![Share on Twitter](https://static.hubspot.com/final/img/common/icons/social/twitter-24x24.png)](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?original_referer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2017%2F02%2F11%2Fpope-francis-proposes-anti-mannequin-challenge-fight-indifference%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dtwitter&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2017%2F02%2F11%2Fpope-francis-proposes-anti-mannequin-challenge-fight-indifference%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dtwitter&source=tweetbutton&text=Pope%20Francis%20proposes%20an%20%E2%80%9Canti-mannequin%20challenge%E2%80%9D%20to%20fight%20indifference) [![Share on Email](https://static.hubspot.com/final/img/common/icons/social/email-24x24.png)](mailto:?subject=Check%20out%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2017%2F02%2F11%2Fpope-francis-proposes-anti-mannequin-challenge-fight-indifference%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Demail%20&body=Check%20out%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2017%2F02%2F11%2Fpope-francis-proposes-anti-mannequin-challenge-fight-indifference%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Demail) ** #### About the Author ![CatholicMom Logo](https://www.catholicmom.com/hubfs/_catholicmom/logos/favicon-catholicmom.png) ### [The Pope Video](https://www.catholicmom.com/articles/author/the-pope-video) The Pope Video is a global initiative developed by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (Apostleship of Prayer) to disseminate the monthly intentions of the Holy Father concerning the challenges facing humanity.
