Daily Gospel Reflection for March 7, 2017

Today's Gospel: Matthew 6:7-15

In all three readings for the day, we are encouraged by the knowledge that God knows us and what we need - that He will feed us and deliver us from our trials on earth, that He is our salvation. God provides for us our daily bread, but this is much more than food, for it is the sustenance of His Word that truly feeds our souls.

When I ponder the Word Made Flesh and contemplate what that means to me in Holy Communion, I am both humbled by His love, and further encouraged to partake of this Bread that He offers.

As I move through this Lenten season, I am acutely aware that we are moving toward that Passover night when He breaks bread with us, and the crucifixion, when He becomes for us the Bread of Life.

His sacrifice is the ultimate mercy, the ultimate love that saves us from our transgressions - our sins that hurt Him, and hurt us so deeply.

My favorite line is from today’s readings in from the Psalm, “Look to him that you may be radiant with joy.”

When I look upon the crucified Christ and see the holy sacrifice, I also see beyond it to the Risen Christ, who inspires this radiant joy, and all I hope for is spending my eternity in His Presence because of His Mercy for us.

Do you forgive others with the same fervor and mercy with which you seek forgiveness?

Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your loving care for each of us, especially your mercy. Grant that we may have the strength to carry out that mercy toward others. Amen
