Today's Gospel: Mark 12:35-37

David - one of my first bible studies and eye-opener to how much God loves us. As a young mom of toddler boys, I was fairly certain I was muddying it up on the daily; I needed David’s story. David was so far from perfect and when he messed up, he went big. And yet, God loved him mightily. So, how then could Jesus himself possibly come from such imperfect lineage? Imperfect though David was (and aren’t we all?), He was perfectly certain of one thing: God’s love. So certain indeed that He knew the Lord spoke to his heart, referring to David as his own, worthy of a seat at His right hand, worthy of victory over his enemies because of God’s love. Jesus gave the crowd a question: “How then can he be his son?” The crowd may have delighted in Jesus’ teachings, but were they truly able to grasp his question which is also answered in John 15:5? "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. “ We are all David.

Ponder:

What thing is holding you back from savoring God’s love and mercy fully?

Pray:

Jesus, you’ve shown us time and again how much you love us in spite of our continuous failings. Your mercies are unending and Your generosity is without boundaries. Help us to trust like David, that every gift we have is from God himself and His love never fails us.
