Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:44-46

During Sunday Mass a few years ago, I got distracted when I saw a pearl sitting on top of a Hymnal. I picked up the pearl, showed it to my husband, and then it fell on the floor and rolled to the pew behind us. Three days later during daily Mass, the reading was the same as the one on Sunday - the pearl of great price!! Ding, ding, ding! What just happened? Had I really seen a pearl on Sunday when the reading was also on the pearl of great price? Immediately after Mass, I rushed to where I had sat on Sunday and frantically looked on the floor behind me - there it was - the pearl. Now, I know the pearl came from someone's broken necklace or bracelet, but is it odd or is it God that I found it on the day when the reading was on how the Kingdom of God is like merchant who searches for fine pearls?

Could it be that I am the merchant seeking the most precious thing in life – the Kingdom of God? Or could it be that God is the merchant seeking me - I am the pearl! When God finds me, He gives me His all. Jesus sacrificed everything to acquire the kingdom for me.

Ponder:

Do I really comprehend the depth and breadth of God’s love for me? He loves me even more than I love myself. Yes, Jesus loves me, this I know!

Pray:

Lord, help me to “live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
