By Catholic Relief Services Staff Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. With 21 million victims worldwide, there are more slaves today than at any time in history.1 Our Catholic faith calls on us to defend life and human dignity, to fight conditions that lead to the enslavement of human beings. Here are three ways you can fight human trafficking today.

Advocate

Children who are refugees are more vulnerable to human trafficking, early marriage, and forced labor. When you advocate for refugees and migrants you help keep those in vulnerable situations safe. Two small migrants are seen on the patio of “La Casa del Migrante”, a Catholic Church-run shelter in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. This is a safe home for thousands of Latin-Americans on their way to the United States. Here they can get a meal, clothes and rest. Ciudad Juárez has always been an important route for migrants as it shares a border with El Paso, Texas. Photo by Oscar Leiva/Silverlight for Catholic Relief Services[/caption]

By purchasing a Survivor’s Kit For Trafficked Girls you provide a month’s supply of food, medicine, bedding, clothing and hygiene items to women and children who are exploited by human traffickers. Nazma, 29, is a survivor of sex trafficking and mother of three. Nazma travels to villages to share her own experience to help prevent teenage girls from falling into trafficking traps.
