On many days she would cry, saying, “I want to get on the bus; I want to go to school too.” It wasn’t long before her time to get on the bus came, and she got on it for many years after. This week she donned her cap and gown and walked across the football field to receive her high school diploma. In what seems like in a blink of an eye, her years of school just flew by. Somehow, when it is your youngest child, you feel that they will remain your baby forever. It is similar to the television commercial where the dad looks into his car and sees his teenage daughter as a small child attempting to drive away. This is the time when you should feel happy and excited for your child. They have given their best effort during elementary, middle, and high school. Your child's future looks bright and they have accomplished much. Yet there is a a small sense of something ... that is hard to put your finger on. Is it concern that you are getting older? Is it the sense that your child won’t need you as much? Perhaps it is a little of all of these, but change is part of life and a good thing. It points to that you have done your job as a parent and that your child can move on to the next stage of their life. So we salute all of the graduates in the Class of 2019 for this wonderful milestone. We look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish in life and if we are getting older, just remember that with age comes wisdom.
