His anxiety was high and it seemed like we could not get a rhythm going when we were together. We seemed to focus on what was coming instead of the here and now. However, we were able to spend almost two continuous weeks together at the end of the summer. Yes, we couldn’t really take a trip, and it was the hottest part of the summer, but it really was the best part of the summer! We had movie nights, series marathons and got to enjoy some mom-and-son dance times. He actually asked me to dance as we were playing one of our favorite big band 40’s records on the record player, "Unforgettable." It wasn’t anything fancy or exciting but it was memorable, and we were focusing on the present moment. My son turned 13 this summer, and I could actually see that young man starting to peek through in our conversations and in his appreciation for our moments. God is good all the time! He really is. There were moments during this summer that were difficult but I still found the “lemonade” and thanked God for giving me the dance, the laughter, the cuddles, in the time we did have together. We can find many reminders in scripture about living in the here and now, not the what might be. What made it even sweeter was that Mother Mary was there to comfort me and remind me to look closely and remember that the crosses are a gift and will bring us closer to her Son. Perhaps that is what made me find the lemonade. Time is precious, and moments are too. I should never take that for granted regardless of how much or how little I have with those I love. Remembering that we don’t know the day nor the hour when Our Lord will call us home. "Lemons into Lemonade" by Elizabeth Estrada (CatholicMom.com) Image credit: Pixabay.com (2018), CC0/PD[/caption]
