But how many tell the story from the perspective of a  Catholic German soldier? This is the genius of author Kathryn Griffin Swegart in her captivating book, [***Perilous Days***](https://www.amazon.com/Perilous-Days-Brave-Hearts-Book-ebook/dp/B07L4WZTVZ/), Book 1 in the Braveheart series. [![Perilous Days by Kathryn Griffin Swegart](http://catholicmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Perilous-Days-Cover.png)](http://catholicmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Perilous-Days-Cover.png) Through well-researched narratives of actual WWII figures, Swegart brings to life through her creative writing style the true events of  World War II’s unspoken heroes. She reignites the untold stories of German soldiers who secretly didn’t support the ideologies of Adolph Hitler. Felix Culpa Schmidt, an unwilling sixteen year-old boy, is drafted during Germany’s conscription to help with the war. While questioning his own faith and wondering about the state of Germany, Felix must report to the Russian front line with his trusted dog Rolf to assist wounded soldiers on the battlefield. The story provides a unique perspective of moral decisions and enigmatic soldiers, with a captivating twist of events. A great story for young teens to engage in history while celebrating Catholic identity, [***Perilous Days***](https://www.amazon.com/Perilous-Days-Brave-Hearts-Book-ebook/dp/B07L4WZTVZ/) has earned the Catholic Writer’s Guild Seal of Approval. ### **Visit [our Book Notes archive](http://catholicmom.com/category/book-notes/).** --- *Copyright 2019 Andrea Bear* ### Share this article [![Share on Facebook](https://static.hubspot.com/final/img/common/icons/social/facebook-24x24.png)](http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2019%2F08%2F22%2Fbook-notes-for-kids-and-teens-perilous-days%2F%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dfacebook) [![Share on Twitter](https://static.hubspot.com/final/img/common/icons/social/twitter-24x24.png)](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?original_referer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2019%2F08%2F22%2Fbook-notes-for-kids-and-teens-perilous-days%2F%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dtwitter&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2019%2F08%2F22%2Fbook-notes-for-kids-and-teens-perilous-days%2F%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dtwitter&source=tweetbutton&text=Book%20Notes%20for%20Kids%20and%20Teens%3A%20%22Perilous%20Days%22) [![Share on Email](https://static.hubspot.com/final/img/common/icons/social/email-24x24.png)](mailto:?subject=Check%20out%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2019%2F08%2F22%2Fbook-notes-for-kids-and-teens-perilous-days%2F%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Demail%20&body=Check%20out%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww.catholicmom.com%2Farticles%2F2019%2F08%2F22%2Fbook-notes-for-kids-and-teens-perilous-days%2F%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Demail) ** #### About the Author ![Andrea Bear](https://www.catholicmom.com/hubfs/Andrea%20Bear%201.jpg) ### [Andrea Bear](https://www.catholicmom.com/articles/author/andrea-bear) Andrea Bear is a wife, mom, and teacher in Stockton, California.
