Book-Notes-720-x-340-dark-gold-outline-and-medium-blue-pen-_-Notes-light-blue-702x336 This summer I was blessed to be able to attend the International Magnificat Conference in New Orleans. I met so may wonderful women, some who I’d met already via online meetings and some for the first time. It was nice to put names and faces and voices together! One day at lunch, I sat across this a lovely woman and we all talked about where we were from and what we did in Magnificat and in general. I said that I was a writer and Debbie just looked at me and something like wow, look at how you just said that! So I explained a bit of what I write and she said that she too had written a book: Hairspray, Holy Water, and the Healing Hand of God. I was intrigued and told her I’d love to write her a review. She graciously gave me a copy, And so here we are, getting down to why you would like this book and how to get a copy. First, let me say that Debbie Eckert’s personality shines through her book. We only spoke for a short time at the conference, but I saw her in the group many times and her love for the Lord, her obedience to him and her joy was so evident. All of that comes out as you read her stories of God’s work in her life, her family’s, and those who have sat in her chair. No, Debbie is not a therapist; she’s a hairdresser! But as I understand it, people tell their hairdresser many things. And when they did, she listened and prayed for them and then began praying with them, asking God to help, to guide, to heal. Debbie lays her struggles out with candor and honesty. Struggles many of us have with humility, pride, gratitude, and of course, doubting God is paying attention. Over and over, Debbie gives us the answer to struggle – prayer. In prayer we can surrender and hear what God wants and where he is leading us. It reminds me of my own journey and that in the end, we are all looking toward heaven as our goal. If you are part of Magnificat, Cursillo, or CRHP; whether you pray quietly or raise your hands in the air and dance; it matters not because we are all part of this great big Catholic Church, working out our salvation and loving God. Take a look at Hairspray, Holy Water and the Healing Hand of God; you’ll feel like you and Debbie are having a chat while she cuts your hair.
