Sometimes, it’s hard to get kids to figure out how to make the Bible come alive, understand the nature of Christ, comprehend the strange imagery of the Book of Revelation, realize how the Faith affects their social lives, and follow what’s going on in the Mass (live or livestream). Fortunately, those are all the topics we cover this week on “Catholic Central”!

Catholic Dating Was Always a Challenge, But Now …

Sooner or later, we’ll be sprung from quarantine. In the meantime, there are things like texting, messaging, apps (shudder) and even, talking or videochatting on the phone. We all need some good social guidelines.

Dating in the Catholic world can be awkward, confusing, and depressing. But it doesn’t have to be! In “Catholic Central: Catholic Dating,’ Kai and Libby give us some tips on how to make the dating experience better, both for you and everyone you date.

Diving Deeper

  1. What does dating mean to you? What is a date? What is the purpose of dating?
  2. Do you invite God into your dating decisions, desires, emotions? If so, what does that look like for you and how does it affect your dating/romantic life?
  3. Christian author CS Lewis says, “To love at all is to be vulnerable.” What makes vulnerability difficult? What makes it worth it?

Activity

When you meet a person you’re attracted to, try praying by seeing them through Christ’s eyes. How does Jesus look at this person? What are the things that Jesus pays most attention to? How might Christ love them? Then, ask God how you might love that person with Christ’s own heart. Ask how God might be drawing you to Himself through that person.

Reflection

Watch The Dating Project. What models for dating from Professor Kerry Cronin could you integrate into your dating life, if single? What stories from the documentary’s subjects could aide you in navigating the dating waters. What stories of disappointment from the same subjects might serve as a warning of what things to avoid?
